Welcome to EFPRA's homepage and thank you for your interest in our Association.

EFPRA represents the Fat Melters and Renderers in nearly all EU Member States, and on a yearly basis processes more than 16 million metric tones of animal by products at over 450 production sites.

The BSE crisis had a very strong influence on our industry, causing to introduce a total feed ban an animal proteins for farmed animals. This was followed by far-reaching legislation, including Animal By Product Regulation, which introduced very strict rules for collection, handling disposal or use of animal by products, and the TSE regulation which lays down rules for use of animal by products in animal feeds.

The burden of these two pieces of legislation has caused a yearly loss of more hundred millions Euro's for EFPRA members and eventually the whole agricultural industry.

However EFPRA members have in a very positive way, reacted to these extensive challenges, and arranged their business in accordance with legislation. At the same time members have strengthened their cooperation within EFPRA, with the clear target to find new ways for using animal by products and the derived products, to add more value to the whole livestock food chain.

EFPRA is convinced that the positive reaction from our members to the legislative challenges combined with an intensive Research and Development programme will lead to revision of EU legislation an open new doors for the use of animal by products. This will be the key to the recovery of the EU rendering industry by adding value to all our products under EFPRA's F5 programme:

• F is for Food… for human consumption
• F is for Feed… for farm animal feeds
• F is for Fertilizer… for agronomic crops
• F is for Fuel… for sustainable energy, heat and power
• F is for Functional… for specific applications

We are convinced that society understands that our industry is essential for an efficient community, and we look forward to the future work together with legislators, partners and other stakeholders with the clear goal to create a new and valuable future.
